my love is your love was released internationally on 16 November 1998 (17 November 1998 in the US). In the year since, it maintains an unbroken chart run on the Billboard 200 and the UK album chart. The album has sold over eight million copies world-wide to date. It arrived to the critical acclaim of an artist who had managed to credibly re-invent herself and redefine the demographics of her fanbase. The first single was 'When You Believe' from The Prince Of Egypt soundtrack. It went on to win an Oscar for Best Original Song at the 1999 Academy Awards. The duet sold over one million copies worldwide. The second single internationally was the acclaimed 'It's Not Right But It's Okay' which sold over 500,000 copies in the UK alone before being deleted. Her 1999 Brit Awards performance of the song put Whitney Houston back on the UK musical map. In the US, the song enjoyed the rare feat of having appeared as the 'B' side of 'Heartbreak Hotel' and them also enjoyed it's own extended chart run selling 500,000 copies before being deleted. 'It's Not Right But It's Okay' become Whitney's first US Club number one this year (and her first for some years).
The second US release was 'Heartbreak Hotel'. The song reconfirmed Whitney's viability as a radio accessible artist in the '90s. Peaking at No.2 on the Hot100, 'Heartbreak Hotel' is the second best selling single for the year to date in the US. 'Heartbreak Hotel' quickly became Whitney's second US Club number one hit this year. It also spent seven weeks at number one in the US R&B Singles Chart. The title track was the global fourth single from the album. It's success has been immeasurable as it became a European number one single topping sales of 500,000 copies in the UK and Germany and has US sales which already surpass 500,000 copies. 'My Love Is Your Love' is the song of the summer of 1999. It proved to be the perfect introduction to Whitney's sold out European tour and took the album to the European No.1 album spot for a remarkable six weeks. The song registered as Whitney's third number one US club hit in 1999. The My Love Is Your Love World Tour began in June in the US to critical acclaim. It progressed through select dates in the US before arriving in Europe in August where Whitney performed over 40 sold out shows. The tour is recognised as the most successful arena tour of Europe of the year. The outfits for the tour were exclusively designed by Dolce & Gabbana. Whitney is widely recognised as one of the best dressed people in 1999.
Whitney celebrated the end of the tour in style winning the 1999 MTV Europe Music Award for Best R&B Artist in Dublin. Her performance of Get It Back / My Love Is Your Love proved her resurgence as an artist of the new millennium was not just a one off performance. Accessibility proved to be better than ever with instore signings, MTV appearances, Top Of The Pops, Letterman, Leno, Oprah, videos, remixes and an internet webcast to launch the album.
