Artist Collection...

ArtistCollection.org is a new website dedicated to all the BMG releases under the Artist Collection banner.  The Whitney Houston section features short video clips for 'Saving All My Love For You', 'I Wanna Dance With Somebody (Who Loves Me)' and 'I Have Nothing' to profile the 5 video DVD that will be issued in conjunction with the CD release.

The blurb that accompanies the Whitney Houston Artist Collection page reads as follows:

Whitney Houston was the first of the modern R&B divas who is graced with the same vocal genes as her mother, Cissy, and her aunt, Dionne Warwick. With over 120 million albums and 50 million singles sold worldwide, Whitney has already established an unparalleled legacy for herself. A singer who influenced an entire generation of female vocalists, she made history, in 1987, as the first female artist to enter the Billboard album charts at #1 and established herself as the only artist ever to have seven consecutive #1 hits, surpassing a record previously set by The Beatles and The Bee Gees.

She also found equal acclaim on the big screen with her starring role in The Bodyguard, the soundtrack album of which resulted in a string of solid crossover hits. With worldwide sales of the album surpassing 5 million units, and the movie a box-office smash, Whitney went on to steal the show at VH1’s second annual "Divas Live/‘99," with a performance that the New York Times called simply "invincible". And a show that was the highest-rated telecast in its history.

With more Gold, Platinum and multi-Platinum certifications pouring in from every corner of the globe and an enormously successful world tour playing 16 cities in North America and concluding in Europe, it seemed as if she could do no wrong.

And if any evidence were needed, during the 42nd annual Grammy awards, in 2000, Whitney was on-hand to receive the sixth Grammy award of her career, where she took the honors for Best Female R&B Vocal, winning her first R&B Grammy award in a category that surpassed even her three previous Grammy’s for Best Female Pop Vocal in 1985, 1987 and 1993.

Ebony's 50 Most Intriguing Blacks...

Whitney Houston is featured in Ebony Magazine's 50 Most Intriguing Blacks list (November 2004):

Whitney Houston-
"She may not have been in the limelight as much, but Whitney Houston is still on the minds and in the hearts of millions. Rather than savoring images of the golden-voice singer performing, many now have lasting images of Whitney in court to support husband Bobby Brown. People-watchers also are fascinated and dismayed by the fact that it took Whitney such a long time to seek treatment for her admitted drug problems, and that there were many false starts. Word now is that she completed treatment and is on her way to a full recovery. It also seem that her mentor, BMG music honcho Clive Davis, has again taken Whitney under his wings. She is preparing to record a new CD to be released next year. In the meantime, people are fascinated by the ongoing Whitney Houston drama, and many hope that the real-life pop princess will regain sound footing in her career and her personal life and reclaim her crown."

Brandy...

[From Contact Music]

Brandy's Bad Houston Concert

R+B star BRANDY hated her first concert, because she couldn't get close to her idol WHITNEY HOUSTON.

The WHAT ABOUT US? singer went to see Houston perform live when she was a budding wannabe and spent the whole gig hoping to persuade the idol to help her become a star.

Brandy says, "I didn't enjoy myself because I was at work. I was trying to get to the front of the arena.

"I was working the ushers, like, 'Look I'm young. I'm gonna be a star and if you hook me up I'll remember you.'

"I really wanted to meet Whitney Houston. In my mind that was my big chance to become famous.

"I talked my way down to the front, but I didn't meet her. So that night I was very disappointed and upset."

[Press Association Report]

I've beaten my demons, says Whitney

Whitney Houston claims to have beaten her demons and is ready to make her singing comeback - again.

Now 40 and sober after a stint in rehab, she claims: "I've emerged from a long, long fog.

"I'm clean, I'm sober, I feel reborn and I'm loving life. I came so close to throwing it all away.

"Now I cherish every second of the day. I have rededicated my life to my family and my career and I am happier now than I can ever remember being.

"These past three years have been a very long period. I thank God we have emerged back into the light."
