Asia...

Whitney Houston has performed in Asia on a number of occasions, contrary to the first report published on philstar.com.  The follow up report also clarifies that philstar.com's initial report was incorrect.  Indeed, Whitney Houston has toured Asia on a number of occasions and her 1997 Pacific Rim Tour focused on the region fairly extensively.

Singapore...

In the the Asia-Pacific/South East Asian region, major record companies such as Sony, Warner, Universal, EMI and BMG often collaborate with each other to come up with special-themed compilation albums that whet the appetites of the ever belt-tightening consumers.

'The Power Of Love', a joint venture compilation album, is the region's best-selling compilation album of love songs by 'heavy-weight' artists and broke sales records region-wide.

The follow-up effort to this record breaking album, 'The Power Of Love 2', was released two months ago and has since been setting the pace on the sales chart.

The following is an extract of the album's review from 'Lifestyle', the widely read magazine from Singapore:

'The Power Of Love 2' sold so well that music stores had to re-order after less than 2 weeks of its release. It's surprising that divas like Mariah Carey, Celine Dion, Madonna and Whitney Houston still have such a strong following when a whole new breed of younger hip acts are now dominating the charts. Tracks like 'Rain', 'Hero' and 'Where Do Broken Hearts Go' don't need any introduction. Sentimental pop songs are what you like? This compilation is for you...

As a result, 'Where Do Broken Hearts Go' is once again on heavy airplay rotation in the region, especially on Adult Contemporary music stations such as the hugely popular Class 95 'Best Mix of Music'.

Meanwhile, the 'Just Whitney...' album has been labelled a 'Best Seller' by HMV and Tower Records regionally.

Whitney Live In Japan?...

[From Philstar.com]

MANILA, October 13, 2003 (STAR) FUNFARE By Ricardo F. Lo - Curtain-raisers: • Oops! So sorry but the planned concert of Mariah Carey here next month went pffft. There have been initial negotiations but Mariah had to beg off due to her very tight schedule. Stay tuned for further developments.

• Meanwhile, Whitney Houston’s concert in Japan in April next year won’t be her first in Asia, contrary to Funfare’s report a few issues ago. It’s her third. Whitney performed in Sendai City, Japan, in Jan. 1990; and at the Queen Sirikit National Convention Center in Thailand middle of that year.

• Lani Misalucha would have one of the 3 Asian superstars handpicked by Whitney as co-performers, along with Indonesia’s Anggun and Taiwan’s Coco Lee. However, she opted out due to her pregnancy (she’s due to give birth in April).

Below is the report from 8 October 2003 that suggested Whitney would be doing her first show in Japan:

Lani pregnant
FUNFARE By Ricardo F. Lo
Publish Date: [Wednesday, October 08, 2003]

The good news is that Whitney Houston will finally perform in a concert in Japan, her first ever in Asia, sometime in April and she’ll be co-starring with three of the top singers in the region, namely Anggun of Indonesia, Coco Lee of Taipei and, yes, Lani Misalucha of the Philippines.

Oops! Wait a minute. Lani is begging off from that big musical event even if she, along with Anggun and Coco Lee, was handpicked by Whitney who, upon listening to Lani on tape, agreed that Lani indeed sounded like her.

Lani’s reason for backing out: She’s three-months pregnant with her and husband Noli Misalucha’s third child (they have two daughters) and she’s giving birth in April next year at almost the same time Whitney’s concert is scheduled in Japan.

All Lani could say is, "Sayang!" Yes, sayang talaga! Better luck next time – that is, if there’s going to be a next time.

Being eyed to replace Lani is Jaya who, although not as versatile as Lani, is a good enough alternative.

Words & Pictures...

Whilst two separate track listings for 'One Wish - The Holiday Album' have been published across the internet, decisions are still being made and it is possible that the final track listing could still differ to what we have seen listed.

The album cover art work is final and comes from a photo shoot Whitney posed for with renowned photographer, Sante D'Orazio.  Whitney Houston would not have approved the cover had she not been pleased with the results of the shoot.
