She fought the law ...

The police officer who arrested Bobby Brown in a restaurant outside Atlanta earlier this week for violating the terms of his probation said Bobby's wife, Whitney Houston, wasn't happy about having her family dinner interrupted. While the cop slapped the cuffs on Bobby, a worked-up Whitney accused the cops of picking on her hubby, shook her finger in the arresting officer's face and called him a bitch.

Sparkle...

[From EUR Web]

Although not specifically Whitney related, the following report published on the EUR website confirms Raven Symone has won the lead in the remake of 'Sparkle', the movie project that was to be co-produced by Whitney Houston's BrownHouse production company (no word as to whether BrownHouse is still involved in this Warner Brothers production):

STUDIO IS RAVING FOR RAVEN: Young actress chosen to Sparkle.

(Aug. 21, 2003) *Disney's "That's So Raven" star, Raven as in Raven Symone, has beat out Ashanti for the lead role in the Warner Brothers remake of "Sparkle.." The 17-year-old actress/singer will walk in big shoes when she plays the youngest sister in the the new version of the 1976 drama about a Supremes-like group of singing sisters. The role was originally played by Irene Cara. For those that remember, the singing siblings initially encounter success, but that's when the drama began. And for that reason alone, only a strong actress/actress would qualify. Sorry Ashanti. Not this time. The new version will keep the Curtis Mayfield penned songs from the original and Raven, who has just completed an album for Disney, will do her own singing in the film. On another note, Michael Elliot, from "Like Mike," has been brought in to rewrite the script written by E. Lynn Harris.

Birthday Party...

[From People Magazine]

Whitney Houston's 40th birthday party was a time for fans, friends and family - with one exception. Houston's husband, Bobby Brown, failed to attend the Aug. 9 bash at the Taboo Bistro & Bar in Atlanta after off-duty deputies, working security at the bash, said they would honour an outstanding warrant for his arrest. (The nearby DeKalb Count Sheriff's Dept. says Brown, 36, violated terms of his probation for a 1996 drunk-driving charge.

No matter, Brown sent a present, a large oil painting by artist Ernest Watson of Whitney reclining in Bobby's arms. Houston herself arrived near 1 a.m., an hour past her actual birthday.

Bodyguard 2...

[From Guardian Unlimited]

Costner wanted Diana for Bodyguard sequel

Thursday August 7, 2003

Kevin Costner has revealed that he asked Princess Di to be his co-star in a sequel to his 1992 blockbuster The Bodyguard. In an interview with Primetime Thursday on America's ABC network, the Oscar-winner admitted trying to secure the royal as a replacement for original star Whitney Houston. The film would have found Kev's character shielding the princess from stalkers and paparazzi while shuffling towards an inevitable mistress-servant love affair. Recalling the conversation, Costner said of Diana: "She was very quiet and very sweet. And I said: 'Yeah, there's going to be a kissing scene.' And she laughed ... She hadn't said yes to it, but she indicated to me that she knew her life was going to change." In the event, the star-crossed pairing was not to be. Costner admitted that he received the script for Bodyguard 2 on August 31, 1997, the day before Diana was killed in a Paris car crash.
