THE EUROPEAN TOUR 1998
REVIEW

Review By Klaus-Peter (Halle Germany, 21 June 1998)

Hi Manish! It's a pleasure to me to write the review for your website. Your Nippy-site is great, I'm so glad that there are people like you and Rachel who manage to keep us always along with Whitney via the Net. Have a good time in Manchester!

Here's my review of Whitney Live in Halle, 21.6., I call it just "Heaven On Earth".
I hope it isn't too long, sorry, but I just want to relive that yesterday night again and again.

Me and my sister arrived about 2 hours before the show that was to begin at 19.00 Outside the stadium I met Lili, Nicki and Anne wearing their fanclub-tees like me. Well, I didn't know them before but we decided to see the show together as a group. We left our reserved seats behind and managed to get a place on the stairs right beside the stage, no one in front of us,only few meters away with a good view into backstage (where later Bobbi Kris was seated to attend her mothers show)as well.

Before the show Ricky Minor came on stage, eating ice cream, just to check the situation. As the three girls brought their self-made giant styropor letters "NIP", he soon noticed us, laughing back and talking to the crew that the FanClub was over there. Punctually at 19.00 the show started with the support act, chosen by Whitney: Connor Reeves (Thanks Manish, you were right). He and his band played for about half an hour, and finally, at 20.00, there SHE appeared backstage to go to the elevator: Whitney rose in a beautiful black glimmering dress, curly hair, singing "I´m Every Woman" continued by "So Emotional". At the right beginning she noticed the huge letters that Lili, Anne and Nicki were waving, telling the audience that "Nip" was her nickname. The show went on with medleys of "All At Once / Where You Are", "Didn't We Almost Have It All / Where Do Broken Hearts Go", "Saving All My Love For You", "All The Man That I Need" and "Nobody Loves Me Like You Do".

For the love song medley she asked to sit down, moving and dancing to "I Wanna Dance With Somebody (Who Loves Me)" and "Queen Of The Night". Oh, her voice was so full of strength, warm, shining, she took everyone away to higher grounds (what is quite impossible for the often so reserved Germans).

I can't forget that moment when she started to sing "Didn't We Almost Have It All", people around me couldn't help from letting flow their tears of joy. These love songs made history, each one of the thousands in the audience seemed to have personal memories related with these songs performed and given life by Whitney.

As we (the four Fan club members)didn't stop yelling and shouting "Whitney, we love you", she often came back to our place to tell us "I love you back". Can you imagine that sensation being so close to her, to see her incredible beauty, to catch a look into her eyes! No words will explain that.

While brother Gary was singing "Change The World", Whitney changed and soon came back with an elegant white flitter dress, different hair style and these lovely glass shoes, to sing "Endless love" with Gary. So supreme, touching, everyone's heart was moved. Nip did that "Diana Ross honors" with "I'm Coming Out", "Ain't No Mountain High Enough" and "The Boss". The whole audience suddenly joined her to dance. What a feeling!

After that she sang "I Believe In You And Me" sequeled by "I Go To The Rock" with the introduction of her band.

Finally ... she only pronounced "If ..." when people went mad. Whitney who was absolutely comfortable, in a happy mood, took off her shoes and sang that song, barefeet, soulfully, deep. She made everyone always love her. People exploded when she finished into standing ovations and massive applause, until she came back after quite a long time, to sing "Step By Step", in jeans, a purple jacket with silver stripes and sports shoes. It was bombastic. When she left stage, imagine, our letter-waving and yelling and supporting was fully recompensed: we got her sweat-towel, used by Whitney seconds before to dry her face. Heaven, how sweet can a human smell? She seems to be divine. All in all, it was Whitney at her best. The night justified her as "The voice", soulful, powerful, sweet and smooth. Not only the audience, Whitney, too, enjoyed the show, you felt that. It was a whole give and take, conversation between her and the audience, full of lovely, sometimes even intimate moments.

Whitney is back, proving it with an 1 3/4 hour show that left everyone happy in a world full of stars. I wonder what it meens when I remember my sister (who isn't a Whitney fan and usually listens to Melissa Etheridge, German Rock etc.) with tears in her eyes, listening to Whitney ...

Oooh, I passed into an all time high, now I never more can get enough from this woman. Go on, Whitney!

(Once again thanks to Nicki, Lili and Anne for sharing Whitney's towel with me. We cut it into four pieces. And don't forget the NIP letters in Aschaffenburg, she'll remember you) .
